What Do Cave Paintings Tell Us? Some Inquiries regarding Prehistoric Faith in the Context of Paleolithic Era Cave Paintings

Abstract

Throughout the ages, approaches, awareness, and functioning of faith are filled with clues to human archaic thinking. These certainties in human self-consciousness have formed the basic elements of all societies from the past to the present. Of these basic elements, undoubtedly the most notable and decisive are some practices of religion. It is impossible to think of paleolithic cave paintings and other portable religious elements separately from these practices. In this study, the process of preparing and making Paleolithic cave paintings during the very long journey of man will be discussed, the connection with rituals will be questioned and the religious connection of all these works will be tried to be revealed. The preconceptions about faith in the mental world of the period person who wanted to send messages to the invisible world from the world, which is scattered all over the world and appears with similar symbolic meanings, determined the process of formation of cave paintings. In this respect, the place of prehistoric cave paintings in the process and their effect on subsequent civilizations is very important

Çaglar boyunca, inanca dair yaklasimlar, farkindaliklar ve isleyisler insanin arkaik düsüncesine yönelik ipuçlari ile doludur. Insanin öz bilincindeki bu belirlilikler, geçmisten günümüze kadar bütün toplumlarin temel unsurlarini olusturmustur. Bu temel unsurlar arasinda süphesiz en dikkat çekeni ve belirleyici olani dine ait bazi pratiklerdir. Paleolitik Çag magara resimlerini ve tasinabilir diger dinsel unsurlari bu pratiklerden ayri düsünmek olanaksizdir. Bu çalismada, insanin çok uzun süren yolculugu içerisinde Paleolitik Çag magara resimlerinin hazirlanis ve yapilis sürecine deginilecek, ritüeller ile baglantisi sorgulanacak ve bütün bu isleyislerin dinsel baglantisi ortaya konulmaya çalisilacaktir. Dünyanin her tarafina dagilan ve benzer sembolik manalar ile görünen âlemden görünmeyen âleme mesajlar göndermek isteyen dönem insaninin zihin dünyasinda inançla ilgili ön kabulleri, magara resimlerinin olusum sürecini belirlemistir. Bu dogrultuda, tarih öncesi magara resimlerinin süreç içerisindeki yeri ve sonraki medeniyetlere etkisi oldukça önemlidir.
