Bayt and Its Features in Kurdish Folk Literature

Abstract

The richest kinds in Kurdish literature are folklore and folk literature. Folk literature is considered to belong to the public and is very common among the people. Kurdish (Kurmanji) Bayt, epic and narrative verse much valued in Kurdish Folk Literature. Epic (Destan) is one of the oldest literary genres. It is a literary genre from ancient times and is anonymous. In the epics, historical and social events that have a great impact on the society and imprinted on the memories of the society passed down in poetic form. “Dastan” or “Destan”” is an Iranian word. In Kurdish (Kurmanji) are used some words for the “epic” or “Dastan” such as “Bayt” “Qiset”, “Qewl”, “Hîkaye”, “Serhatî” and “Çîrok”. Bayt is an orally transmitted story which is either entirely sung or is a combination of sung verse and spoken prose. This study aims to introduce the genre of “Bayt” or verse story.

Di Edebîyata Kurmancî da beşa ji hemîyan dewlemendtir Folklor û Edebîyata Devkî ye. Edebîyata devkî malê gel e û li nav komelgehê belav e. Di edebîyata devkî da beyt, destan an jî çîrokên manzûm yên kurmancî giranîyeke mezin heye. Destan yek ji kevintirîn cûreyê edebîyata devkî ye. Di serdemên gelek kevin da hatine danan û danêrên wan ne dîyar in. Di destanan da bûyerên dîrokî û civakî yên karîgerîyeke mezin li ser civakê hiştî û di bîrdanga civakê da cihê xwe girtî, bi awayekî manzûm hatine honandin. Peyva “Dastan” an “Destan” peyveke Îranî ye. Di kurmancî da li şuna peyva destanê “Beyt”, “Qiset”, “Qewl”, “Hîkaye”, “Serhatî” û “Çîrok” tên bikaranîn. Beyt; hîkaye an rûdanekê bi devkî vediguhêze. Dibe ku ew ji serî bo binî bi terzê stirankî an jî bi terzê stirankî û çîrokî ya tevlîhev bê gotin. Armanca vê xebatê danasîna cûreyê beytê an jî çîroka manzûm e.
