Reflections of Social Media Usage After the 06 February Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes

Abstract

The earthquake, which cannot be ignored, caused the loss of tens of thousands of lives on February 06, 2023. Many of our citizens were rescued from under the rubble, with injuries. The technological devices used in the studies have contributed a lot. Thanks to the social media posts of our citizens who were both next to and under the rubble, many of our people could be reached more quickly. logistics etc. Many posts have been made in order to guide the aid efforts. Unfounded posts have had negative repercussions on rescue efforts. These posts caused unnecessary departure of rescue teams, social panic and anxiety. In this study, it has been shown with the help of data how social media can be beneficial for the wounds of the earthquake to be healed more quickly, for the aid and logistics activities to be better directed, and how unfounded posts cause negative effects. In the last section, the prominent aspect and statistical data of Twitter in the shares were examined. © The Author(s) 2023.
