Peer Rejection During Physical Activities From The Perspective Of Teachers Attending The Barrier-Free Youth Camp

Özet

This research was conducted to examine whether peer rejection was experienced among disabled individuals participating in a non-disabled youth camp during physical activities during the camp. In the study, in order to examine whether peer rejection occurred among disabled individuals, the opinions of the teachers who accompanied the disabled individuals during the camp were consulted. The research was designed with a general survey model. 42 of 57 teachers who accompanied disabled individuals at Silifke Barrier-Free Youth Camp participated in the research. Data were collected with the ÖSFEDAR Scale Teacher Form and personal information form developed by Han et al., (2022). SPSS 23.0 program was used to analyze the data obtained from the research. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data and normality test was performed. Since the data did not show a normal distribution, Mann Whitney U test was used for pairwise comparisons. In the findings obtained, no statistically significant difference was found in determining the reasons for peer rejection in terms of the participants' age and professional years. However, in terms of gender variable, a statistically significant difference was detected in favor of male teachers in the speaking skill sub-dimension. In addition, according to the variable of having a disabled family member, a statistically significant difference was detected in favor of those who answered yes in the problematic behaviors sub-dimension of the scale. As a result, it was determined by the teachers who were male and had a disabled family member that disabled individuals experienced peer rejection during physical activities in the camp due to their lack of speaking skills and problematic behaviors.

Bu arastirma, engelsiz gençlik kampina katilan engelli bireyler arasinda, kamp süresince yapilan fiziksel aktiviteler esnasinda akran reddi yasanip yasanmadiginin incelenmesi amaciyla yapilmistir. Arastirmada engelli bireyler arasinda akran reddinin yasanip yasanmadigini incelemek için kamp süresince engelli bireylere eslik eden ögretmenlerinin görüslerine bas vurulmustur. Arastirma genel tarama modeli ile desenlenmistir. Arastirmaya, Silifke Engelsiz Gençlik Kampinda engelli bireylere eslik eden toplam 57 ögretmenden 42’si katilmistir. Veriler, Han vd., (2022) tarafindan gelistirilen ÖSFEDAR Ölçegi Ögretmen Formu ve kisisel bilgi formu ile toplanmistir. Arastirmadan elde edilen verilerin analizinde SPSS 23.0 programi kullanilmistir. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde tanimlayici istatistik kullanilmis ve normallik testi yapilmistir. Verilerin normal dagilim göstermemesinden dolayi ikili karsilastirmalarda Mann Whitney U testi kullanilmistir. Elde edilen bulgularda katilimcilarin yas ve meslek yili degiskeni açisindan akran reddi nedenlerinin belirlenmesinde istatistiksel olarak anlamli bir farkliliga rastlanmamistir. Ancak cinsiyet degiskeni açisindan konusma becerisi alt boyutunda erkek ögretmenlerin lehine istatistiksel olarak anlamli farklilik tespit edilmistir. Ayrica ailesinde engelli birey bulunma degiskenine göre ölçegin problemli davranislar alt boyutunda evet diyenlerin lehine istatistiksel olarak anlamli farklilik tespit edilmistir. Sonuç olarak cinsiyeti erkek olan ve ailesinde engelli birey bulunan ögretmenler tarafindan, kamptaki fiziksel aktiviteler esnasinda engelli bireylerin konusmalarindaki beceri eksikligi ve sahip olduklari problemli davranislardan kaynakli olarak akran reddi yasadiklari tespit edilmistir.
