Journey From Moscow to Constantinople (1817-1818) başlıklı eserin çeviri ve incelenmesi

Abstract

Seyahatnameler resmî kaynaklardan uzak, gündelik hayata dair eserler olduklarından seyahat edilen bölge hakkında sosyal, ekonomik, dini, siyasi, psikolojik vb. daha birçok alan hakkında geniş yelpazede bilgiler sunmaktadır. Seyyahlar resmî tarih yazıcıları olmadıklarından gözlemlerini, ilgilerini ve toplum içinde daha çok rağbet görülen konular üzerine yazma imkânına sahip olmuşlardır. Seyahatnameler, uzunca bir dönem tarihi kaynak olarak kabul görmemiştir. Fakat bu kaynakların aynı dönemde yazılan başka kaynaklarla ve resmi kayıtlarla karşılaştırıldıklarında bizlere son derece önemli bilgiler verdiklerini görmekteyiz. Seyahatnamelerin aynı zamanda toplum modernleşmesi açısından da önemli rollere sahip olduklarını söylemek yerinde olacaktır. Söz konusu çalışmamızın temel konusu, William Macmıchael tarafından kaleme alınan "Journey From Moscow To Constantınople in the Years 1817,1818" adlı eserin Türkçeye çevrilmesi ve daha çok İstanbul ile ilgili gözlemlerinin değerlendirilmesinden oluşmaktadır. Bu sayede daha önce Türkçeye tercüme edilmemiş bir eserin literatüre kazandırılması ve 1817-1818 yılları arasında Osmanlı toplum yapısının anlaşılmasına katkıda bulunma amacı güdülmüştür. Çalışmamızın giriş kısmında konunun ehemmiyetinin anlaşılması için seyyah, seyahatnameler üzerine bilgiler verdik. Birinci bölümde Türkiye'de seyahatname türü üzerine yapılan çalışmalara, hem seyyah hem de seyahatnamenin yazımında etkisi olan Osmanlı- İngiliz ilişkileri üzerine ve yazarın hayatına dair genel bilgiler yer almaktadır. İkinci bölümde seyahatnamenin çevirişi ve İstanbul gözlemlerinin yer almaktadır. Son bölüm ise eserin çevirisinden oluşmaktadır. Since the travel books are far from officıal sources and are works of daily life, offers a wide range of information about the region traveled to such as social, economi, religious, political, psychological, etc. The fact travelers were not official histographers, they had the opportunity to write about their observations, interests and topics that were more popular in the society. Travel books were not accepted as a historical source for a long time. However, when these sources are compared with other sources and official records written in the same period, we see that they give us extremely important information. It would be appropriate to say that travel books also play an important role in the modernization of society. The main subject of our aforementioned study consists of the translation of Wiliam Maccmıchael's "Journey From Moscow To Constantınople in the Years 1817,1818" into Turkish and mostly the evaluation of his observations on Constantınople. İn this way, ıt was aimed to bring a work that has not been translated into Turkhis before to the literature and to contribute to the understanding of the Ottoman society structure between 1817-1813. In the ıntroduction part of our study, information is given on the traveler and travel books in order to understand the importance of subject. İn the first part, includes general information about the studies on the type of travel book in Turkey, the Ottoman- British relations, which had an affect on the writing of both the traveler and the travel books, and the authour of life. İn the second part includes the translation of the travel books and observations on Constantınople. İn the last part consists of the translation of the work.
