Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin "Güneş Sistemi” İle İlgili Zihinsel Modelleri

Abstract

Thepurpose of this study is to determine secondary school students’ mental modelsabout the “Solar System”. Thestudy was conducted on all the students attending two state middle schoolslocated in the western part of Turkey in the spring term of 2017-2018 schoolyear and a total of 340 students participated in the study. The data collectiontool used in the study consists of two open-ended questions. The questions inthe data collection tool were developed to elicit the students’ states ofdescribing and visualizing the solar system. In the analysis of the collecteddata, first the students’ states of describing and visualizing the solar systemwere separately analyzed and then the students’ responses given to thedescription and visualization questions were evaluated together and thus theirmental models were determined. As aresult of the study, it was concluded that secondary school students did nothave scientific mental models about the “Solar System” and they mostly hadmental models at the initial and synthesis models.

Bu araştırmanın amacıortaokul öğrencilerinin “Güneş sistemi” ile ilgili zihinsel modellerininbelirlenmesidir. Araştırma, 2017-2018 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar dönemindeTürkiye’nin batı bölgesinde yer alan iki devlet okulunun tüm ortaokulöğrencileri ile gerçekleştirilmiş olup, araştırmaya toplam 340 öğrencikatılmıştır. Araştırmada kullanılan veri toplama aracı, iki açık uçlu sorudanoluşmaktadır. Veri toplama aracında yer alan sorular, öğrencilerin Güneşsistemini betimleme ve görselleme durumlarını ortaya çıkaracak şekildehazırlanmıştır. Veri analizinde, öncelikle öğrencilerin Güneş sisteminibetimleme ve görselleme durumları ayrı ayrı analiz edilmiş, sonra betimleme vegörselleme sorularına verilen cevaplar birlikte değerlendirilerek öğrencilerinzihinsel modelleri belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda ortaokul öğrencilerinin“Güneş sistemi” ile ilgili bilimsel zihinsel modele sahip olmadığı, öğrencilerin daha çok sentez ve ilkel model düzeyinde zihinsel modele sahipolduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
