Fen Bilgisi Öğretmeni Adaylarının Matematiksel Modelleme Becerilerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the solving skills for themathematical modelling activities of the pre-service science teachers in termsof modelling process. Case study among the qualitative research methods hasbeen applied for this purpose. The study has been carried out with 20pre-service science teachers, and the purposive sampling has been implementedin determining the participants. “To jump or not to jump” and “Balancednutrition of dairy cattle” activities developed by Erbaş et al. (2016) havebeen used as the data collection instrument. The obtained data have beenanalyzed through the descriptive analysis method. As a result of the analysis, ithas been determined that the pre-service teachers have had difficulty in allthe steps of mathematical modelling. It is necessary to relate mathematics toother disciplines and to cooperate with the teachers in other disciplines sothat mathematical modelling is applied at the desired level. Therefore, mathematical modelling activities can be included not only in mathematicscourses but also in other courses related to mathematics, and theinterdisciplinary studies can be conducted by starting from the primary school.

Buçalışmanın amacı fen bilgisi öğretmeni adaylarının matematiksel modellemeetkinliklerini çözme becerilerinin modelleme süreci bağlamında incelenmesidir.Bu amaçla nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması deseni kullanılmıştır.Çalışma 20 fen bilgisi öğretmen adayı ile yürütülmüştür ve katılımcılarınbelirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasıErbaş vd.’nin (2016) düzenledikleri “Atlamak ya da atlamamak!” ve “Sütineklerinin dengeli beslenmesi?” etkinlikleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Eldeedilen veriler betimsel analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Analizlersonucunda, öğretmen adaylarının matematiksel modellemenin tüm basamaklarındazorlandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Matematiksel modellemenin istenilen düzeydeuygulanması için matematiğin diğer disiplinlerle ilişkilendirilmesi ve diğerdisiplinlerdeki öğretmenlerle de işbirliğinin yapılması gerekmektedir. Buyüzden, matematiksel modelleme etkinliklerine sadece matematik derslerindedeğil, matematikle ilişkili diğer derslerde de yer verilmesi sağlanabilir vedisiplinler arası çalışmalar ilkokuldan başlamak üzere yapılabilir.
