İlköğretim Matematik Öğretmeni Adaylarının Matematiksel Modelleme Becerilerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim matematik öğretmeni adaylarının matematiksel modelleme problemlerini çözme becerilerini incelemektir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemleri içerinde yer alan durum çalışması deseni kullanılmıştır. Çalışma “matematiksel modelleme” dersi kapsamında öğrenim gören ilköğretim matematik öğretmeni adayları ile yürütülmüştür ve katılımcıların belirlenmesinde gönüllülük esas alınmıştır. Bu çalışmada öğretmen adayları dörder kişilik gruplar halinde çalışmışlardır. Veri toplama araçları olarak literatürdeki matematiksel modelleme problemlerinden “Maksimum Hacimli Kutu”, “Nasıl Depolayalım?” ve “Hangi Konutu Almalı?” problemleri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda öğretmen adaylarının matematiksel modelleme problemlerine adapte olamadıkları ve zorlandıkları görülmüştür. Verilen problemlerde öğretmen adaylarının modelleme sürecinin ilk basamaklarını doğru bir şekilde tamamlayamamalarının sonraki basamakları da olumsuz etkilediği görülmüştür. Verilen modelleme problemleri sırasıyla incelendiğinde, grupların son problemde modelleme basamaklarının kısmen takip edilme sayısının arttığı tespit edilmiştir. Matematiği günlük hayatla ilişkilendirmede önemli bir rolü olan matematiksel modelleme yönteminin daha iyi uygulanabilmesi ve öğretmen adaylarının eksiklerini giderebilmeleri için modelleme etkinliklerine öğretimin her kademesinde daha fazla yer verilmesi sağlanabilir.

The aim of this study is to analyze mathematical modelling problem solving skills of prospective elementary math teachers. In this study case study design, which is one of the qualitative research methods was used. This study was conducted with prospective secondary mathematics teachers who took “mathematical modelling” class and participation was voluntary. In this study, the prospectvie teachers worked in groups of four. As the data collection tools, the problems of mathematical modelling in the literature such as "Maximum Volume Box", "How to store?" and "Which house to buy?" were used. The data obtained were analyzed through descriptive analysis method. As a result of the research, it was seen that prospective teachers cannot adapt to mathematical modeling problems and have difficulties. It was seen that prospective teachers could not complete the first steps of the modeling process correctly, which had a negative impact on the following steps. When the modelling problems given respectively are assessed, it can be said that the number of being followed of the modelling steps of the groups increased in the last problem. In order to employ the mathematical modelling method which plays an important role in relating mathematics to daily life and to remove deficiencies of prospective teachers, modelling activities should be included more.
