Hümanist mi Bağnaz mı? Thomas More ve Ütopya’sını Yeniden Okumak

Abstract

Genellikle Ütopya eseri ile tanınan Thomas More’un diğer eserlerinin Türkçe literatürde benzer bir ilgiyle karşılandığını söylemek güçtür. Oysa bu eserlerde Türk-Osmanlı-İslam dünyasıyla doğrudan ilgili kısımlar mevcuttur. Söz konusu kitaplar Ütopya eseriyle birlikte okunduğunda, Ütopya'ya hâkim olduğu varsayılan ‘dostane-hümanist-sevgi’dilinin, Protestanlık ve Türk-Osmanlı-İslam kimliklerine karşı, yerini öfke ve nefret söylemine bıraktığı görülecektir. İşte bu çalışma, Thomas More’un Ütopya eserini diğereserleriyle birlikte, onların ışığında okumayı teklif etmektedir. Ütopya ile diğer eserleriarasında, genel anlamda özgürlükler ve hususen de din hürriyeti açısından, üslup veyaklaşım farkının nasıl mülahaza edilebileceğiyle ile ilgili sonuç bölümünde kısa bir değerlendirme yapılmıştırIt is difficult to say that other works of Thomas More, generally known with his Utopia, were met with a similar interest in the Turkish literature. However, there are sections in these Works that are directly related to theTurkish-Ottoman-Islamic world. When the books in question are read together with the Utopia, it will be seen that the language of ‘friendly-humanist-love’, which is assumed to dominate Utopia, is replaced by anger and hate speech against Protestantism and Turkish-Ottoman-Islamic identities. This study proposes to read Thomas More’s Utopia book with other Works and under their light. A brief evaluation has been made in the conclusion section about how the difference between style and approach can be observed between the author’s Utopia and his other works in terms of freedom in general and, in particular, freedom of religion.
