Government Expenditures and Economic Growth: An Analysis of Developed, Developing and Underdeveloped Countries

Abstract

Bu çalışma 1980-2012 dönemi arasında gelişmiş, gelişmekte olan ve az gelişmiş ülkelerdeki kamu harcamalarının ekonomikbüyümeyi nasıl etkilediğini incelemektedir. Sonuçlar, kamu harcamalarınınazgelişmiş ülkeler için sabit ve rassal etki modellerinde ekonomik büyümeüzerinde olumlu bir etkiye sahip olduğunu; ancak, gelişmiş ülkelerde kamuharcamaları ile ekonomik büyüme arasında anlamlı negatif bir ilişki olduğunu göstermektedir.Gelişmekte olan ülkeler için ise kamu harcamaları, sabit efektif modeldurumunda ekonomik büyümeyi olumsuz etkilemekte; buna karşın rassal etkimodelden elde edilen bulgulara göre değişkenler arasında pozitif ve anlamsızbir ilişki vardır.

This paper assess how the governmentexpenditures affected economic growth in developed, developing andunderdeveloped countries by using the unbalanced panel approach for the periodof 1980-2012. The results indicate that government spending has positivesignificant impact on economic growth in fixed and random effect models forunderdeveloped countries, while for developed countries there is a significantnegative relationship between government expenditure and economic growth inboth fixed and random effect models. For the developing countries governmentspending has negative significant impact on economic growth in case of fixedeffect model, while for the random effect model, there is positive andinsignificant relationship of government spending to economic growth.
