Özet
Range archery is a sport of archery based on throwing the furthest arrow. Shots to record distances or range records were carefully recorded. In some archery treatises, these shootings are included in such a way as to include information such as the name of the archer, the shooting distance and the shooting date. The center of this study is the 'Lodge of Archers' - 'Archers School' ('Kemankeş Tekkesi' - 'Okçular Mektebi'), which was established in 1454 during the reign of Mehmet II in the Ottoman Empire, 'range archery' ('menzil okçuluğu'), a sport discipline in archery, was taken for the first time in the world. The training of range archery in the Ottoman Empire, skipping in education (small and large hilt ceremonies), be able to master and graduate from the school of archers (mastery rituals), record-breaking in range shooting, erecting a range stone, etc. The edicts prepared and published by the sultans for the rules, rules and rituals of the sultans were examined in our study. In our study, 'Shooters Laws' ('Kanunname-i Rimat'), shooters registry book and other archive books, 'archery related works' ('kavsnames'), 'range, scroll of range' ('menzilnâme'), 'Ottoman documents and chronicles of Ranges archery book' ('Kavsnâme-i menâzil'), 'Ranges book' ('Defter-i menâzil') were used. In addition, historical and current sources related to the subject were also used. In conclusion; It has been concluded that Ottoman range archery, completely different from archery made for hunting and especially war until the middle of the 15th century, was a sports discipline with many rules, and the institutionalization in archery sports discipline and sports was the first in the world. © 2024 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
