Introduction: The ability of older adults to recognize and articulate abuse is crucial for effective prevention, especially given their vulnerability to mistreatment. Understanding the factors contributing to abuse can inform more targeted and impactful interventions. Method: This qualitative study employed a case study approach to explore the perspectives of older adults. Twelve participants, aged between 65 and 75 years, were recruited through purposive sampling and interviewed between March and April 2023. Results: Analysis revealed 3 core themes: (1) Changing Times-addressing shifting family bonds, generational differences, and evolving roles; (2) Perspectives on Older Adults-focusing on economic struggles, childhood experiences, and conditional love; and (3) Type of Abuse-highlighting vulnerability and concerns about mortality. Findings suggest that evolving social dynamics and perceptions are central to the increased susceptibility of older adults to abuse. Conclusion: The study underscores the urgent need for interventions addressing the broader social and cultural factors contributing to abuse. Considering the nuanced perspectives of older adults can facilitate the development of robust and tailored prevention strategies.
