Tanrı, Olasılık ve Kötülük

Abstract

Felsefe tarihi boyunca Tanrı’nın varlığını yadsıyan birçok argüman ileri sürülmüştür. Bunların en güçlü olanları, kötülük temel alınarak kurgulananlar olmuştur. Dünyada çok miktarda kötülüğe konu olan durumlar bulunduğu düşüncesi temelinde çeşitli argümanlar sunulmuştur. Bu makalede kötülüğün kendisinde temel bir veri olarak kullanıldığı bir olasılık hesabından hareketle Tanrı’nın varlığına karşı sunulan bir argüman değerlendirilmektedir. Bu, James W. Cornman, Keith Lehrer ve George S. Pappas’ın beraber kurguladıkları bir argümandır. İhtimaliyet temelinde kurulan bu argümanı sunduktan sonra argümanın teistik Tanrı anlayışını yadsımaya neden olup olmadığı tartışılacaktır. Bu argümana karşı sunulan itiraz da dikkate alınarak kötülüğün Tanrı’nın var olma olasılığını ortadan kaldıran bir kanıt olarak kullanıldığı olasılık teorisi üzerinde kurulan argümanların yeterli ölçüde güçlü olmadığı savunulmaktadır. Bu makale, olasılık teorilerinin olgusal alana dair güveniler bilgi verebileceği ancak Tanrı’nın varlığına karşı bir olasılık teorisi temel alınarak kurgulanan argümanların insanın epistemik açıdan erişimin olmadığı metafiziksel alana dair ulaştığı sonuçların güvenilir olmayacağı sonucuna varmaktadır. Nihayetinde konu Tanrı olunca her bir yeni öncül/veri, olasılık hesabının sonucunu doğrudan etkileyecektir.

Throughout history of philosophy many arguments have been put forward to deny the existence of God. The most powerful of these have been those that are built on the basis of evil. Various arguments have been presented on the axis of the thought that there is a great deal of evil in the world. In this article, an argument against the existence of God that is based on a probability calculation in which evil is a fundamental component is evaluated. This argument is presented by James W. Cornman, Keith Lehrer and George S. Pappas. After presenting the argument based on probability, it will be discussed whether this argument is sufficient to deny the theistic understanding of God. Considering the objection to this argument, it is argued that the arguments based on probability theory, where evil is used as evidence that reduces the probability of the God's existence, are not strong enough. This article concludes that probability theories may give information about the phenomenal domain, but the conclusions of the arguments against the existence of God based on a probability theory regarding the metaphysical field where epistemic access is not available will be unreliable. Eventually, when the subject is God, any new premise / data will directly affect the outcome of the probability calculation.
