Investigation of Parents' Reasons for not Playing with Their Children

Abstract

In this research, the reasons behind why parents do not want to play games with their children were examined. The study aims to identify the parents who do not play with their children and determine why not playing games. A purposeful sampling method was preferred in this qualitative research study. For participant features, the form of determining the participatory demographic structure was used. The qualitative data, the reasons for not playing games were asked by face-to-face interview. The data obtained were interpreted through descriptive and content analysis. The research was carried out with parents who participated voluntarily in the September-December 2019 period. In the study, 142 participants, including 34 men and 108 women, were reached. It was determined that the participants had at least one child and a maximum of 13 children. It was determined that most participants were housewives and were especially interested in their children in the evening. It was also determined that the majority of the participants did not have any educational diplomas. For the parents in general; It was found that there are reasons classified in five categories: working or not being able to spare time, reluctance and not knowing, child age, traditions, and crowded family structure. According to this; It was determined that the majority of the participants did not play games with their children for reasons such as work, occupation and inability to spare time. Except this; It was determined that parents do not want to play games due to not knowing games, disliking play, the thought that children's ages are not suitable for the game, the pressure from the neighborhood, other people's thoughts, traditional reasons due to negative examples from their ancestors and crowded family structure. In line with the results, suggestions were made.

Bu arastirmada ebeveynlerin çocuklari ile oyun oynamama nedenleri incelenmistir. Arastirmanin amaci çocuklari ile oyun oynamayan ebeveynleri tespit etmek ve oyun oynamama nedenlerini belirlemektir. Nitel arastirmanin yapildigi bu çalismada amaçli örneklem yöntemi tercih edilmistir. Katilimci özellikleri için demografik yapisini belirleme formu kullanilmistir. Nitel veriler yüz yüze görüsme yaparak oyun oynamama nedenleri sorgulanmistir. Elde edilen veriler betimsel ve içerik analizleri ile yorumlanmistir. Arastirma 2019 yili Eylül-Aralik sürecinde gönüllü katilan ebeveynler ile yapilmistir. Arastirmada, 34 erkek, 108 kadin olmak üzere 142 katilimciya ulasilmistir. Katilimcilarin en az 1 çocuk en fazla 13 çocuk sahibi olduklari belirlenmistir. Katilimcilarin büyük çogunlugunun ev hanimi olduklari ve özellikle aksam vakitleri çocuklari ile ilgilendikleri belirlenmistir. Ayrica katilimcilarin çogunlugunun herhangi bir egitim diplomasina sahip olmadigi belirlenmistir. Genel olarak ebeveynlerin; çalisiyor olma veya zaman ayiramama, isteksizlik ve bilmiyor olma, çocuk yasindan dolayi, geleneklerden dolayi ve kalabalik aile yapisi gibi bes kategoride siniflandirilan nedenlerinin oldugu belirlenmistir. Buna göre; katilimcilarin büyük çogunlugunun is, güç ve zaman ayiramama gibi nedenlerden dolayi çocuklari ile oyun oynamadiklari belirlenmistir. Bunun disinda; ebeveynlerin oyun bilmeme, hoslanmama, istek duymama, çocuklarin yaslarinin oyuna uygun olmadigi düsüncesi, mahalle baskisi, baska insanlarin düsüncesi, atalarindan gelen olumsuz örneklerden kaynakli geleneksel nedenler ve kalabalik aile yapisindan dolayi oyun oynamadiklari tespit edilmistir. Sonuçlarin dogrultusunda önerilerde bulunulmustur.
